Here is a mini-interview with the children’s book illustator and writer Matthew Porter!
Troy: what sorts of things do you look to for inspiration?
Matthew: Books mainly - I like old children’s books like the The “This Is London, This is Paris series. I enjoy the illustative work of the Provensens. They were a husband and wife illustation team that worked on lots and lots of amazing children’s books.
I also listen to a lot of BBC 7 - which is the comedy and drama channel. I stream it online and listen to different stories all day from Sherlock Homes to old British comedy like the Goons Show.
Stephano: please tell us of an artist we may have never heard of…
Matthew: Paul Chatem - www.paulchatem.com My wife and I own three of his originals and I think he keeps getting better. i really enjoy his work becuase I feel like each piece tells a story as well as the work being amazingly well thought out.
Troy: if you could go into the past, as far back as you wanted to go, what historical period would you like to see in real time?
Matthew: - 60’s! Music, art, television. Also there is so much hype about the 60’s I’d love to see what the reality of the time was really like in real life.
