permalink Bret Pendlebury - Ann Ball - $20
I was led to Bret Pendlebury’s shop by a mutual friend James Anthony, both live in the tropics of Miami and I am a bit jealous!  But instead of overtanned beach babes, hungry seagulls and zanexy watercolor ocean scenes this wonderful shop is full of some very East of Eden-esque portraits of beautiful but hardened women, both tender and tuff. The strange thing about these ladies is that they seem to be constantly accompanied by flies - or are they birds? not sure… Doesn’t seem to bother them tho, they seem unfazed … their gaze continues longingly… as if waiting for their husband- or a tornado… I am not quite sure.  But there is something tranquil in their faces, that makes me want to go stand in a field of wheat (with my ipod of course) and wait for something too… maybe a big shiny flying saucer?- T
